Amelia Island Plantation is in USDA Hardiness Zone 9A All plants need nutrients to grow. Plants usually get nutrients from the soil, but sometimes supplemental nutrients help them thrive. Proper fertilization enhances growth, increases flowering or fruiting, corrects nutritional deficiencies, and enhances the plant’s appearance. Improper fertilization can cause damage to plants and the environment. Fertilize according to UF/IFAS recommended rates and application timings to prevent nutrient runoff and leaching which can pollute Florida’s waters. Always follow the fertilizer label directions. A tournament like no other …

The second annual Drummond Point Park Boules Club Spring Petanque Tournament featured 24 community members playing in teams of two, including two teams from Osprey Village. The players enjoyed lunch in the park before starting play. Over the course of the afternoon, the field was narrowed down to the Final Four teams — Jeff & Robin Pullen; Lib Schuler and Bill Quam; Mary & Stan Neal; and Jackye Rubin and Walton Rogers. Congratulations to the tournament winners — Lib and Bill — who won a hard-fought match against runners-up Jackye and Walton.

UNF partners with AIPCA for Thoughtful Thursday

Amelia Island Plantation Community Association (AIPCA) members filled the Sunset Room in The Oaks Community Center April 27 to hear University of North Florida (UNF) art history professor Dr. Debra Murphy speak about Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, currently the subject of a “once in a lifetime” exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Murphy, the inaugural chair of the Department of Art and Design at UNF, provided insights into Vermeer’s life and art and shared her own experiences visiting the Rijksmuseum exhibit.
